Mokicco News

Messages from MOKICCO are posted here to keep you informed about their developments.

I thank God for His great love, mercy, grace, and faithfulness. Thank you, friends, for all the support and intercession MOKICCO has received from you.

MOKICCO (Mount Kilimanjaro Children Care Organisation) was founded in 2006 in Tanzania. Therefore, the Swedish support group began their meeting on Sunday, February 8th, by celebrating 20 years with MOKICCO. With your help, many children have been given a better future. The goal of MOKICCO was to help orphans and children in vulnerable situations. Today, MOKICCO has helped many. We have 120 children distributed across 20 family homes where they receive food, clothing, schooling, a Christian upbringing, and more. MOKICCO also operates three bookstores that distribute Christian literature and three day centers where parents can leave their children while they go to work. Carl-Erik Sahlberg also started a side project called the Missions Fund, which has the primary responsibility of building houses for widows and the poor. Today, we also have a group of widows who meet once a week to pray together and run projects to improve their economic situation. However, MOKICCO’s core commitment remains the children.

One of the greatest gifts to the children is the opportunity for schooling. All the children in our care complete their primary education, but the question is how we help those who want to study further but cannot manage a traditional high school education. For wealthy families, there are private high schools, which are much more expensive than state schools. The alternative is vocational schools. On March 15, 2017, MOKICCO started a vocational school in the village of Mwangaria. It began with 5 students—4 girls and 1 boy—taking a one-year sewing course. So far, 75 young people have completed the course. When they finish, they usually receive a sewing machine and a small amount of money to start their own business. Our evaluation shows that 80% of all graduates successfully started their own sewing studios. This year, we want to develop the vocational school with more study lines, such as carpentry and auto mechanics. At the beginning of the year, this was financially impossible, but now it is possible. Thank God!

Thank you very much to the children’s church, parents, and leaders for the “Claraloppet” (The Clara Run).

Carolina Ayoub shares:
On May 10th, a service for all ages was celebrated together at St. Clara Church. It was a blessed mass with many families and participants of all ages. Afterwards, we moved the church coffee outside, and the children’s church ran the “Claraloppet” around the church to the cheers of the crowd, with the goal of raising money for MOKICCO. The children’s church ran a total of 451 laps around the church together!

In the photo, you can see two of the many children who participated in the Claraloppet.

Adults were invited to sponsor a chosen amount for every lap the children ran. For example, if someone pledged 1 SEK per lap, they then transferred 451 SEK to MOKICCO. MOKICCO provides orphans from very difficult home environments with new homes for life—family homes. This is vital work for the very youngest.

I wish you all a very pleasant summer, with many of God’s blessings.

Overa Seka Sahlberg
