Messages from MOKICCO are posted here to keep you informed about their developments.
I would like to begin by wishing you all a happy Advent, a blessed Christmas, and a good New Year.
Thank you very much for all the support and prayers that MOKICCO received during the year 2025.
I have recently returned from Tanzania. The children are doing well. Some have completed their studies and are now looking for work.
Our goal has been to make a mission trip to Tanzania once a year to see the work carried out by the missionary Dr. Carl-Erik Sahlberg during the ten years he lived there, as well as the work that other missionaries have done and continue to do in the northern part of Tanzania.
This year, only five people traveled. It was a difficult time because Tanzania held presidential elections, which caused protests, demonstrations, and much unrest throughout the country. We experienced God’s protection, and everyone returned home unharmed.
With the help of one of the travelers, we assisted widows in starting a fishing project. There were some challenges, for example when we were going to town to buy a freezer and discovered that the gas station was closed, so we could not buy fuel. After two days, the situation calmed down. The widows received a new freezer. They buy fresh fish, freeze it, and sell it to friends, neighbors, and at the market. At the end of the year, they share the profit along with the money earned from selling chapati, which is Tanzanian bread.
I also visited the vocational school. At the vocational school in Mwangaria, we were happy that four students had completed their training as seamstresses. Each received a sewing machine and some start-up funds to begin their own sewing business. At the graduation celebration at Mwangaria vocational school, parents were present to congratulate their children. Many thanks to all donors who made it possible for these four girls to study and start working.
Together with our Swedish guests, we also visited the Komakundi day center. At the Komakundi day center, forty children are ready to start first grade. The day center takes care of children while their parents work in various places. There is also a preschool where children learn to read, write, and a little English. Today, MOKICCO has three day centers.
Another day center we visited was MOKICCO’s day center in Marangu. This is a special day center built close to the market. The goal was for parents—mostly women who work at the market—to be able to leave their children at the center so the children do not have to stay at the market with their parents. This gives the children the opportunity to play with other children instead. The problem is that some parents earn so little that they cannot afford to have their children at the center. Therefore, MOKICCO is seeking sponsors who can sponsor a child at the day center. Running the center and providing lunch for the children costs approximately 30,000 Tanzanian shillings per month, which corresponds to about € 11. Please contact us if you want more information
I wish you a happy Advent.
Overa Seka Sahlberg
