Mokicco News

Messages from MOKICCO are posted here to keep you informed about their developments.

Thank you very much, friends, for the prayers and support that MOKICCO received in August. Things are going well for the children. Everyone eats their fill and goes to school.

On the first Sunday of August, Lightness, MOKICCO’s youngest child, was baptized. She is now a Christian. Lightness’s mother is Muslim and has a disability. She and Lightness’s grandmother asked MOKICCO to take care of her, and in August they wished for her to become a Christian. The picture is from her baptism celebration. According to tradition, a child who has a party may also treat adults to cake. Here, Lightness offers cake to Sister Agnes.

An event that brings joy to the village of Marangu is the renovation of Sahlberg Road. Carl-Erik Sahlberg and I moved to Tanzania in 2012. In Marangu village, where we lived, it was difficult for the villagers to reach their homes, especially during the rainy season, because the road was in very poor condition. Carl-Erik Sahlberg helped the village to build up the road with sand and cement. This helped the villagers greatly, so they decided to name the road “Sahlberg Road.” Now, more than ten years later, because of heavy rains, the road has once again fallen into poor condition and is in need of renovation. It is encouraging that this time the village of Marangu is taking responsibility to collect money and renovate the road.

Finally, I want to thank God for everything He is doing with MOKICCO. The future looks promising. This year, MOKICCO has, among other things, gained a support group. The chairman is Mattias Wigerdt, and he writes:

“Dear Mokicco friends,
For some years now, there has been a Swedish support group for the Mokicco project in Stockholm. The initiative began within S:ta Clara Church after the passing of Carl-Erik Sahlberg. Initially, the group worked informally in Carl-Erik’s spirit to support Overa’s takeover of the entire Mokicco operation. Since this spring, the Support Group’s efforts have been formalized with clear guidelines and an explicit division of responsibilities.

The primary task of the Support Group is to encourage many donors, both old and new, to contribute financially to support Mokicco’s outstanding work in Tanzania. It is indeed a fact that the entire operation in Tanzania is funded through collected donations. Every gift, large or small, is vital to Mokicco’s work.

Another task of the Support Group is to increase knowledge and awareness of Mokicco as widely as possible. Therefore, we welcome all of you who read Overa’s monthly newsletter to go out as messengers for Mokicco and inform family, friends, and acquaintances about Mokicco. In the email you receive with the monthly letter, you will find information on how to subscribe to the newsletter: nyhetsbrev@mokicco.co

The Support Group, which also serves as advisor and supporter to Overa and her co-workers, is sanctioned by the board of S:ta Clara and we collaborate with S:ta Clara’s Mission Group. We are seven people in the leadership of the Support Group, currently led by Mattias Wigerdt. The responsible contact person between the Support Group and Mokicco is Marianne Lidskog. We in the Support Group sincerely thank you for all your contributions and for helping spread the knowledge about Mokicco.

With Mokicco in our hearts!
Mattias”

God’s rich blessings to you all.
Overa Sahlberg
